“Dickey Rd. Bridge – East Chicago, IN” acrylic by Tony Bianco

20 North Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of atmospheric landscape paintings by Chesterton, Indiana artist Tony Bianco and introspective landscape & still life photography by Columbus, Ohio artist Sebastien Schohn. Each inspired by their individual experiences working in factories or construction in the Midwestern United States, the exhibiting artists of Exploring the Industrial Landscape look for beauty in the familiar industrial and construction scenes of the region known as the Rust Belt.

“Base” photography by Sebastien Schohn

Bianco’s paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor capture scenes across Indiana and Illinois, with multiple new-for-2025 depictions of Toledo, Ohio being unveiled in Exploring the Industrial Landscape. Schohn, originally from Toledo, makes his commercial gallery debut with photography created while working in construction across Ohio.

We are delighted to welcome Tony Bianco and Sebastien Schohn to what is both these artists’ debut exhibition here at 20 North Gallery. Despite the differences in their mediums and approach to subject matter, each artist’s work reveals striking commonality with concepts of the historic Ash Can School in American art, but with a twenty-first century Midwestern sensibility. Their detailed and highly evocative portrayals of the towering edifices of our industrialists and entrepreneurs reveal the unexpected and hidden grandeur of Midwest industries, as well celebrate the dynamism that fuels the industrial heartland and the commitment—in sweat and toil—made by the men and women whose labor empowers the American experience.

“Industrial Repose – Toledo” acrylic by Tony Bianco

Tony Bianco (Chesterton, Indiana)
Born and raised in Northwestern Indiana, Bianco is a primarily self-taught painter. Bianco has received numerous Purchase Awards through the annual Elkhart Juried Regional Exhibition, entering his work into corporate collections in the region. His paintings reflect his unique viewpoint as a former factory worker in the steel mills of Indiana. Recently, in 2024, Bianco enjoyed a solo exhibition, The Industrial Landscape: Paintings by Tony Bianco at the Midwest Museum of American Art.
