In celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month, the Capitol Square Review & Advisory Board will host a free public presentation by acclaimed portrait artist Leslie Adams at the Ohio Statehouse. The event will take place in the Atrium, on Wednesday, October 1 from noon 1 p.m.
The event will also be livestreamed and archived on the Ohio Statehouse website.
In “People, Stories, and Art: A Portrait of My Life and Work,” Adams will share the inspiration behind her detailed portraits, contrasting depictions of Ohio’s leaders with her introspective self-portraits. She’ll reflect on her journey—from childhood days at the Toledo Museum of Art to the influences shaping her work today—and offer a look at the techniques that bring her portraits to life.
One of Ohio’s leading visual storytellers and a native Toledoan, Adams was one of the earliest and longest tenanted Studio Artist at 20 North Gallery’s original location at 22 N. St. Clair Street. Since that time her professional career has skyrocketed, with her commissioned portraiture in high demand throughout the nation and her studio work entering numerous permanent public collections across the country, including the State of Ohio, Ohio Senate, Ohio House of Representatives (Ohio Statehouse), The Ohio State University (Columbus), The University of Toledo (Ohio), Bowling Green State University (Ohio), the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Ella Sharp Museum of Art & History (Jackson, Michigan) and Toledo Museum of Art (Ohio).

Despite the demands of her busy commission and exhibition work, Adams continues to contribute to 20 North Gallery exhibitions, most recently 20 North / 30 Years in 2023.
